It has always been a problem in Google Chrome,that whenever you download a file,and simultaniously perform another heavy bandwidth operation(eg torrents,watching online videos,etc),the download completes immediately,but when you try to open it,it displays an error:"The file is damaged or broken".Chrome creates a partially downloaded file(of much lesser size that the original download).
Today,I present a simple solution for this problem.Just follow the steps below:
- Download
- Right click on the download link=>choose Copy link address.
- Open winWget.Go to Jobs=>add new job
- On the "Add job" Window,in the "Input file" field,choose the broken download.And in the address field,paste the address you copied in Step 2.
- Click OK and Run.After a while,it will ask you to save the file.Click OK again.
- Now sit back and relax.Your broken download will get completed.
- Download wget from here.
- Place the downloaded "wget.exe" in the same directory of the broken download file(ie your chrome download folder).
- Rename the file by removing the .crdownload at the end of the file name.
- Open run command ( winlogo+R) & type cmd then hit enter key.
- Change the directory(cd command) to your wget file location.
- Go back to chrome,copy the download URL,as in the previous process.
- Now, Enter the following command:
wget<space>-c<space>the copied URL
- Your download will continue.
wget<space>-c<space>--no-check-certificate<space>URLHope it helps :)

ReplyDeleteWhen I tried it, it doesn't work correctly either, I mean, it starts the download from scratch (zero bytes).
ReplyDeleteSo that's the same of a direct (i.e. without the use of this tool) (re-)download of the broken file.
I see in the tool, there is the option -c but -a isn't selectable and that's what's just needed, to resume (append the missing part of) a broken download!
Well,there can be many reasons for that,one of them being the server you are downloading from doesn't support RESUMING a download.Not all servers support download resuming.

ReplyDeleteI had to rename the broken download file as it was saved as downloadedfile(1).file - I removed the "(1)" from the filename and did your steps and it resumed right off where it stopped. Hope this helps

ReplyDeleteAn easier alternative for those who don't like messing with the command line is to get program like flashget, free with no malware etc. When you copy a link it will pick it up and a window pops up to download it, hit ok and it does it for you. you have control, ie, you can set how long it waits to retry etc etc. it will resume where it left off. it works for those servers that don't like resumes. you just hit the link again and as long as you are downloading to the same directory it will see the file and just pick up where it left off. Really easy to use. I also use wget, it is very fast working from the command line but it can be daunting for some people. Hope this helps those peeps.... peace out...
